First Friday Art Walk – September 2024
Beth Hanna, a lifelong multi-media artist currently based out of Tecumseh, KS, was drawn to creating art at an early age after a trip to the Art Museum in Chicago, inspired by the work of Georges Seurat. Drawn to Pointillism, Beth expanded it from the traditional black pen & ink, to begin her artistic career as a full-spectrum pointillism artist before moving to 2D and expanding to 3D.
Currently Beth’s works range from modern, mixed media Cold-wax and oil paintings, biomorphic, mixed media 3D florals made from copper and ceramic, Glass lampwork, Fabric and much more. In this exhibit, you will find works from several mediums, emphasizing on mixed media Cold-wax and Oil on wood. Beth describes this work as a “collection of mental snapshots that gather on the panels to express a variety emotion.”, leading to what can be perceived as discombobulated to some or perfect sense to others. Each of these pieces are comprised of cold wax, oil paints and mixed media on a solid wood panel and frame.
Beth has a BFA in Metalsmithing and a BFA in Ceramics as well as a Master’s in education, all from Kansas State University. Her award-winning works have been shown throughout the country, including The National Metalsmithing Museum and even a mention in an off-Broadway play. She taught metalsmithing, painting and design at Shawnee Heights High School for several years, until art kept calling and heading back to the work force to become a welder at a Kansas bronze foundry.
