First Friday Art Walk – December 2023
Lisa, a traditional double-wall basket maker, explores various artistic media, including mobiography and digital manipulation, Cherokee twining, and other textile arts. Being a Native American artist, she not only specializes in crafting traditional art representing her tribe, but also delves into contemporary arts across diverse genres. Indigenous art, from her perspective, doesn’t always adhere to an “Indian” theme; rather, it reflects her traditional teachings and unique outlook.
Education has always been important to Lisa, but her passion is creativity that she uses to educate others. Whether it be through her music, writing, photography, or traditional Cherokee arts, Lisa finds a way for each piece to not only speak to someone’s soul, but leave a lasting memory of history – or hope for the future.
She is currently gallerist and teaching artist at 785 Arts, board member of ArtsConnect, Lead Curator of the (Topeka) Mayor’s Art Initiative, and a facilitator for Mid America Arts Alliance. For more information, visit 785arts.com.
