First Friday Art Walk – August 2019
Discover Art Downtown with our Artist Reception at NexLynx Gallery of Arts, Friday August 2nd from 5pm to 8pm. View the stunning counted cross stitch pieces by Irma Wager and custom, handcrafted jewelry by Barbara Schilling during our First Friday Art Walk.
Irma Wager
Born in Germany in 1942, Irma Wager was taught in grade school to embroider pillow cases, knit wool socks and many other things. She immigrated to the United States in 1959 and has had a love of yarn and knitted, embroidered and counted cross stitch for many years.
The art of counted cross stitch has stuck with her over the last 15 years, finishing projects which take anywhere from 1-4 months. The more challenging her projects, the more she enjoys the process and the outcome.
Irma has made many images for family and friends in different varieties from European landscapes to animals, flowers, city streets and beautiful women. A friend encouraged her to share her work after losing her husband, and Irma was amazed that people thought they were paintings.
Barbara Schilling
Barbara Schilling, a Kansas architect and personal longtime friend of NexLynx owner, has grown up with art and crafts always being a part of her family activities. She began selling her creations in 2004. Barbara’s style has evolved from mostly beaded pieces and now includes intricate wire, metal and bead pieces as well as etched metal, enameled pieces and resin.
She is always looking for new styles and materials to incorporate into her jewelry and is currently planning a series of jewelry incorporating items found in the hardware store. She will have several pieces on display for sale. For more information, visit Barbara’s blog at www.detailsbybarbara.com.
