First Friday Art Walk – April 2019
Once a year NexLynx opens its Gallery to a local High School to showcase the works of talented young artists. This year, we host the visual art students from Washburn Rural High School, displaying a variety of mediums including acrylics, oils, printmaking, and weavings.
Art instructors, Eugina Baer-Witt, Cindy Daniels, Miranda Figgs, Boaz Owen, and Theresa Shetler Logan will present the artwork in the exhibit comprised of pieces by Coral Aboud, Kiersten Creighton, Jillian Dahlby, Amelia Fagar, Luke Farron, Yajahira Hernandez, Andrea Lara, Brad McCollum, Ashlyn Razo, and Christian Robinson.
Many of the pieces on display were created for or at the school’s recent Art Lock In event that they have been doing for about 10 years. The school invites a guest artist to talk about their work, techniques, how they make a living in the arts and inspirations. The guest artist leads the students in creating a work of art using their techniques. It is a fun way to teach students about new techniques and get to meet a professional artist. Christian, one of the student participants, said, “I was able to learn about an artist I had never heard about and totally new techniques that I then got to use to make different pieces of art. I was able to hangout and express myself and my art with my friends, painting and having a good time.”
