First Friday Art Walk – January 2024
Born into a family of photographers in Southern India, Pradeep’s artistic inclinations were ignited at an early age. As a teenager, his training as a retouching and coloring artist for portrait photography inspired him to pursue formal art classes. His early artistic explorations encompassed a diverse range of mediums, including oil colors, watercolors, oil pastels, airbrushed acrylic illustrations, color pencils, and sculptures in various media. His art found its roots in the intricate patterns and vibrant hues of nature, translating these elements into captivating visual stories.
A fascination with computer graphics and animation propelled Pradeep to delve into the realm of 3D computer modeling. This digital exploration eventually evolved into a unique artistic technique he coined “Lasered Layers,” a mesmerizing blend of cutting-edge laser technology and computer graphics.
At the heart of Lasered Layers lies the painstaking assembly of intricately laser-cut sheets of paper, each layer meticulously crafted to create a captivating 3D relief effect. The creative process begins with black and white sketches on paper, which are then transformed into 2D vector art through scanning and reduction. These digital creations are brought to life using a high-precision laser beam, slicing through acid-free card stock with meticulous precision. The laser cutting process adds depth and dimension to the edges, while the texture of the paper and airbrushing techniques infuse the artwork with vibrant colors and captivating textures.
Pradeep’s artistic journey is a testament to his unwavering passion for exploration and innovation. His artwork serves as a bridge between traditional and digital art forms, showcasing the boundless possibilities that emerge when creativity intersects with technology. Deeply inspired by the advancements in generative AI, Pradeep embraces this powerful tool to explore the limitless potential of blending diverse artistic styles within his creations.
