First Friday Art Walk – Month 2019
Kristine Luber has been exhibiting her award-winning fabric artwork in Kansas and neighboring states for the past ten years. She frequently uses Kansas vistas as subject matter in her fabric collages by stitching together photos printed on fabric with patchwork then embellishing with machine embroidery and hand beading, putting a modern twist on traditional patterns.
She also creates three-dimensional art such as fabric flowers, leaves and butterflies that pop right off the wall. Her artwork is even wearable and practical such as light-weight fabric jewelry, women’s shirts, dresses and artwork-upholstered chairs. No matter what kind of project Kristine is working on, her incentive to create comes from the desire to turn items that might otherwise be relegated to the landfill into something beautiful.
A teacher by training and at heart, Kristine created art projects for all ages as an educator, and on behalf of the Topeka Art Guild she currently curates a semi-monthly art show for the children, parents and staff at Security Benefit Academy. You can follow her on Facebook at Kristine A. Luber, fabric artist.
